How to Plan a Taylor Swift-Inspired Wedding

Updated: 6 hours ago

Looking to add just a hint of Taylor magic to your wedding? Or maybe your spouse-to-be is on board with throwing a full-blown Taylor Swift-inspired wedding?

As a massive Swiftie who, in hindsight, should've definitely incorporated more subtle nods to our favorite blondie in her wedding, here are some of my favorite Taylor Swift-inspired wedding ideas.

1. Create Taylor-Made Table Assignments

When it comes to table assignments, there’s one obvious lyric you can add to your seating chart: At every table, I’ll save you a seat.

2. Sparkle with Little Mirrorballs

Transform your venue into a shimmering paradise by incorporating little mirrorballs into your wedding decor. Hang these glitzy orbs from the ceiling, nestle them among floral arrangements, or use them as table centerpieces.

One of my friends used these in her wedding! Alternatively, you can take it up a notch with these mirrorball cups

3. Get Creative With Your Cocktails

Ready to raise your glass? Here are some fun cocktail ideas:

  • "Drunk on Something Stronger Than the Drinks in the Bar" (Cornelia Street): Design a signature cocktail that's bold and intoxicating, perhaps a mix of whiskey and bitters.

  • "Here's a Toast to My Real Friends" (This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things): Perfect for a champagne toast or a special bubbly concoction.

  • "You Can Make Me a Drink" (Delicate): Build-your-own cocktail station, anyone?

4. Design Invisible String Nails

Light pink nails (or any light, pastel color, really) + a gold line = invisible string nails. Super simple yet oh-so-cute and subtle.

5. Have a Friendship Bracelet Station

There's nothing that screams "I'm a proud Taylor Swift fan" more than a stack of friendship bracelets. So why not swap out the usual photo booth for a friendship bracelet-building station?

All you need is an assortment of colorful threads, beads, and charms. Get creative by incorporating colors from your wedding palette. It's a fun, interactive way for guests to mingle and create something unique to remember your day by.

6. Create Friendship Bracelet Escort Cards

On a similar note, you can create Taylor Swift-inspired friendship bracelet escort cards. Each bracelet can be tailored to match your wedding colors and come tagged with guests' names and table numbers.

This idea is super cute, but if you have a massive wedding guest list, be prepared to spend a lot of time beading. (Pro tip: Have a girls' night to make these bracelets together — it's the perfect way for your bridesmaids to bond and tick a big item off your wedding prep list!)

7. Perfect Your Photobooth with a Nod to 1989

Sure, Taylor might insist that 1989 is a beach album, but we all remember the iconic Polaroids, right?

Consider giving your photobooth a 1989 twist — think a backdrop with scribbled lyrics or even a skyline. When it comes to props, you’ll need a bedazzled fake microphone, sunglasses, and one of those black felt hats. Or, just go all out with the Taylor Swift-themed props: a red scarf, heart-shaped sunglasses, sequined hats, and a cardboard cutout of Meredith and Olivia.

Alternatively, you can skip the photobooth altogether and get two or three Polaroid cameras so guests can snap candid moments throughout the celebration.

8. Add Swift-Themed Signage… Everywhere

Anyone who’s ever planned a wedding will tell you that when it comes to signs, there are way more than you may expect. From seating charts to guest book stations to table numbers, there are plenty of opportunities to add to your wedding decor.

Here are some Taylor Swift lyrics that are perfect for signage:

  • “I was enchanted to meet you”

  • “You belong with me”

  • "Every night with us is like a dream"

  • "That’s how you get the girl"

  • "You are the best thing that’s ever been mine"

  • “Love you to the moon and to Saturn”

9. Record Your Wishes in a Vinyl Guestbook

Instead of a traditional guestbook (boring!), opt for something more unique like a vinyl guestbook. Have your guests sign their names and leave messages on vinyl records from your favorite artists, including Taylor Swift of course.

Keep these tips in mind:

  • Personalize each record: Choose albums that mean something special to both of you, perhaps a Taylor Swift album from the year you met or your favorite songs. This adds a personal touch that guests will remember.

  • Guide with lyrics: Use a Taylor Swift lyric as a prompt for guest messages. For example, next to the guestbook, place a sign that reads, “Leave a note on this blank space,” inviting guests to write their well-wishes.

  • Make it interactive: Set up a listening station with headphones near the guestbook where guests can actually listen to some of the records. It’s a fun, interactive way to integrate music into your wedding even further.

10. Walk Down The Aisle to Love Story

Not a fan of Love Story? Instrumental versions of Lover, You Are in Love, or Invisible String are also super sweet options.

11. Tell Your Love Story Through Your Eras

For a creative twist on the typical "Our Story" display, organize your relationship milestones into your eras. This display can chronicle your first meeting, dating adventures, the proposal, and other significant moments leading up to your wedding day.

12. Get Sweet with Your Dessert Table

I didn’t realize how many references to sweet treats Taylor makes until I started creating this list. Instead of the usual dessert labels, consider adding a Taylor Swift twist to your dessert table, like:

  • "Sweet Like Honey" (Karma): Perfect for honey-flavored treats or desserts drizzled with honey.

  • "Cherry Lips, Crystal Skies" (Blank Space): Anything cherry-flavored, from pies to tarts.

  • "Dyed It Key Lime Green" (The Last Great American Dynasty): Use this for a zesty key lime pie or similar desserts.

  • "Holiday, Peppermint Candy" (Midnight Rain): If you’re offering peppermint candies.
